Supervises test technicians in a laboratory support function for Automotive Safety Products Division Production and Engineers. Maintains responsibility for performing analytical laboratory tests on miscellaneous materials, components and processes utilized in the manufacture of automotive airbag products. Ensures that data gathered and analyzed on chemical and/or physical properties is accurate and reliable for quality control purposes. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Understands and applies specific Company safety regulations and procedures associated with the testing and analysis of chemical and/or physical properties of materials, components and processes. 2. Receives assignments and instructions from Department Supervisors and ensures laboratory procedures and guidelines are followed during chemical and/or physical property testing activities. 3. Follows general standard practices, methods, and procedures to determine specific problems, recognize inadequacies, and recommend alternative solutions. 4. Prepares material samples by recognizing their significant and controlling aspects and then planning a correlated series of work steps to carry out necessary sequences of operations. 5. Maintains responsibility for testing materials. Operates chemical and physical test instrumentation to observe and record results. 6. Assists in designing and developing new laboratory equipment apparatus to accomplish specific tasks and meet testing deadlines. 7. Maintains laboratory equipment through proper cleaning and handling to assure optimum accuracy and safety of laboratory tests. 8. Performs other duties as may be assigned. 9. Practice and applies 5 S methods to job. 10. Working knowledge of software programs in Test bay. 11. Be able to perform data entry as required. 12. Possess a clear understanding and ability to teach and train others in the operation, features, risks and deployment characteristics for all module types. 13. Assists other team members in performing tests and setting up equipment to insure work is performed in an efficient and effective manner. 14. Able to perform precision measurements with hand tools such as calipers, feeler gages, etc. 15. Understands the process of controlling and disposition of non-conforming material. 16. Able to maintain accurate records of testing performed. 17. Maintains good communication skills to communicate and interact with production, engineers, etc. 18. Good understanding of QS9000 and ASP system that is applicable to job. 19. Has the ability to troubleshoot and repair test equipment. 20. Understands Receiving Inspection process and have the ability to change QC codes. 21. Knowledge of the SER process recording and closure. 22. Able to submit work orders for repairs through “Leading2Lean” 23. Understands Customer Return process. 24. Basic understanding of the Metrology area and have the ability to provide support. 25. Performs other duties and assignments as directed by Supervisor and or Manager.
If you have/are:
High school diploma or equivalent. Must be able to read and interpret and edit Engineering blueprint drawings, Action orders, LATR’s, Technical specifications and all UTS applications. Thorough understanding of QS 9000 procedures and requirements. Six (6) years inspection experience.
