Job Summary:
The Safety & Sustainability Director for the Americas leads the development and implementation of comprehensive safety strategies across the division (Canada, USA, Mexico, and Brazil) to ensure compliance with regional regulations and drive continuous improvement in workplace safety, environmental stewardship, and sustainable practices.
This role partners with cross-functional teams to embed a culture of safety and sustainability, aligning regional efforts with global corporate goals. Collaborates with plant leadership and cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with safety regulations and promote a culture of safety excellence, with a targeted focus on high-risk areas including die casting operations and explosive materials handling.
Responsible to lead the development and implementation of comprehensive safety strategies across the division, including repetitive motion activities, and forklift safety.
Serves as a key advisor to senior leadership on safety and sustainability related matters, contributing to strategic decisions and long-term planning.
Location: This position may be located in Ogden, Utah, Auburn Hills, Michigan or our Mexican locations.
What you’ll do:
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute division-wide safety and sustainability strategies aligned with corporate goals and regulatory requirements.
- Operational Oversight: Lead safety programs across multiple manufacturing sites, including those involving explosives, die casting, automated systems, industrial manufacturing and high-labor operations.
- Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure full compliance with all health, safety & environmental legislation in Countries we operate in and Autoliv Standards. Ensure that risk assessments and audits are thoroughly completed to proactively mitigate hazards.
- Sustainability Initiatives: Drives strategies to achieve ambitious Company targets including climate neutrality in operations by 2030 and net-zero emissions across our supply chain by 2040. Drives initiatives to reduce environmental impact, including energy efficiency, waste reduction, and carbon footprint minimization.
- Training & Culture: Champion a zero-incident culture through training, leadership engagement, and employee empowerment.
- Incident Management: Oversee investigations of serious incidents, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, community partners, and executive leadership.
- Global Engagement: Participate in global teams, projects and initiatives
- Ergonomics: Develop and execute strategies to reduce overall exposure & risk.
What is required:
- Education & Certifications: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field. Master’s degree preferred. Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (HMM), or equivalent preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience in EHS roles within automotive or high volume manufacturing. Proven expertise in explosives safety, die casting operations, automated manufacturing systems, sustainability, and high-labor environment. Experience leading Safety & Sustainability across multiple countries.
- Competencies/Skills: Strong knowledge of health & safety legislation, computer skills, problem solving, project management, collaboration & influence, accountability, strategic agility, resilience, operational discipline, decisiveness, visionary thinking.
