Packaging Lead Engineer

In this role you will be responsible for setting up the enterprise packaging strategy and technology roadmap while leading a group of engineers.
Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive process standards and documentation to support all end-to-end packaging business and engineering workflows.
Establish packaging standards and lead execution of automation, returnable, and expendable plans while setting the standard on how Autoliv will achieve cost, quality, and sustainability goals. Assign workload to a team of engineers for new launch.

Standards & governance
Establish and maintain packaging standards for automation, returnable, and expendable execution; publish controlled specifications and playbooks.
Lead governance for exceptions/waivers; chair the standards review board and manage change control (ECO/ECN).
Define common footprints and automation execution standards; align with safety/quality and sustainability requirements.
Systems & data architecture
Own enterprise packaging data architecture and tools (spec/PFEP, cartonization, labeling, image vaults): governance, permissions, and data-quality SLAs.
Standardize master data (part-to-pack links, dunnage IDs, test results, sustainability attributes) and audit routines; lead training and adoption.
Select/administer cartonization and labeling systems (GS1/AIAG compliant), including template libraries and formal change control.
Identification & traceability
Set/enforce ID standards (serialization, barcode/QR/RFID), labeling, and traceability checkpoints (ship/receive scans, gate checks).
Materials & technology roadmap
Own the portfolio/roadmap for packaging materials, formats, and automation; prioritize pilots with success criteria and scale proven solutions.
Conduct market/technology scouting; partner with suppliers/startups to mature innovations into standards.
Training, adoption & KPIs
Develop KPIs/dashboards; monitor compliance and drive corrective actions with site leaders.
Mentor regional teams; build capability via training, playbooks, and office hours
Launch Execution
Lead and set workload for a team of packaging engineers for new model launch and serialization projects
Requirements
BS in Packaging Engineering (preferred) or ME/IE
7–10+ years in packaging or logistics engineering, including multi-site standards/systems ownership in automotive/Tier-1 or similar high-volume manufacturing.•Hands-on with PFEP/spec databases, cartonization (TOPS/Cape or WMS-native), labeling, and GS1/AIAG compliance.
Experience integrating packaging data with ERP/PLM/WMS (e.g., SAP/Oracle; Teamcenter/Windchill); strong Excel/BI; familiarity with APIs/MDM concepts.
•Working knowledge of ISTA/ASTM transit testing, load-securement, and sustainability/EPR considerations.
•CAD & Packaging: SolidWorks/NX/CATIA; ArtiosCAD for corrugated/dunnage; read drawings, GD&T, basic tolerance stacks.
