The Formulation Chemist develops and characterizes new energetic materials that enable new life saving devices to meet customer and Autoliv specifications, improve profitability, and keep Autoliv at the forefront innovation in the Automotive Safety Market.
What you’ll do:
- Use analytical techniques & instrumentation to characterize energetic material properties & demonstrate robustness of those materials.
- Investigate design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, specification requirements and cost.
- Plan & execute experiments, analyze test results & data, document results in lab notebook, determine next steps in energetic material development.
- Complete energetic material qualification and validation through use of Autoliv Product Development Systems.
- Interface with internal and external customers by providing and delivering professional technical presentations.
What is required:
- PhD in organic, inorganic, or physical chemistry.
- 0-5 yrs experience formulating and working with energetic materials.
- An understanding of analytical techniques used to characterize energetic materials is highly desirable. These techniques include DSC, TGA, TMA, XRD, FTIR, moisture adsorption, various types of calorimetry, Ion chromatography, gas chromatography, surface area, particle size distribution, porosimetry, ICP, and wet analytical techniques.
- A working knowledge of standard safety practices used when handling energetic materials and the willingness to use these practices on a daily basis is essential.
- Statistical Design of Experiments background desirable.
- Proficiency with Excel, Word, Power Point, SharePoint.
