Autoliv is currently looking for a Mechatronics Validation Engineer that will focus on the steering wheel and/or seatbelt cross functional project teams (CFT), the centralized Electronics & Mechatronics (AEM) group, as well as the centralized Test group at our Auburn Hills, MI facility. This Mechatronics Validation Engineer will be responsible for successful product launch for product functions such as switches, capacitive touch sensing, heating, lighting, wiring harnesses, ECU’s and other system, subsystems, and components.  

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Collaboration with system engineering disciplines to develop mechatronic validation test plans and procedures for automotive safety systems.
  • Develop test facilities/tools/methods and related supporting systems.
  • Specification, project management and reporting on validation plans both internally and with supply partners.
  • Ensure testing, analysis and reporting of test results use sound engineering principles to ensure that the quality and integrity are in accordance with internal, customer and industry standards.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Preparation and present of validation information required to conduct design and readiness reviews with internal and external customers.
  • Ensure transfer of knowledge and best practices across teams and projects.

Required Qualifications: 

  • A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, such as Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering
  • A minimum of 6 years of applicable experience
  • Previous experience in project-based validation of mechatronics systems including embedded electronics controls
  • Interaction and interfacing with:
    • Automotive OEM validation departments
    • System engineering disciplines
    • Electronics and mechanical design disciplines
    • Overall project management disciplines
  • Experience with automotive diagnostic protocol communication tools (CAN, LIN, etc.)
  • Experience diagnosing test related breakdowns related to both test process as well a product shortcoming
  • Experience with launching product at a production location, either at the customer or internally
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to collaborate with product design development & launch in accord with internal development processes & standards
  • Ability to develop strong supplier technical relationships working with the purchasing and quality departments and technical disciplines
  • Ability to develop strong manufacturing relationships working with the industrial engineering and operation departments and technical disciplines
  • Ability to collaborate within a global engineering organization for the development & production implementation of new functions and designs
  • Experience in Steering Wheel or similar “electrified” interior products
  • Proficiency in Spanish/French/Romanian would be a plus
