Autoliv is currently looking for a Development Engineer with focus on CAE analysis of automotive safety products and systems at our Auburn Hills, MI facility. This role is responsible for building and running component level airbag simulation models (primarily for frontal but Side/IC experience would be a bonus). Engineer would be responsible to generate component level models and validate them to correlate to test data. In addition some system level occupant safety simulation models of frontal and oblique crash modes would likely also be requested using Ls-Dyna for restraint system analysis. Other Duties/Responsibilities include: 

  • Work with development engineers, system engineers, product engineers, and external customers to use simulation as a cost-effective means to aid in the development of occupant restraint countermeasures. 
  • Interaction with our full range of test labs – component testing through sled. 
  • Airbag and Seatbelt component level model building and validation. 
  • Coordination of offshore simulation resources for component model build and/or analysis. 
  • Building, running, post-processing system level crash test models. 
  • Analyze test data and comparison to simulation results for the purpose of model validation. 
  • Summarize simulation results and analysis in a clear, concise report. 
  • Adhere to all applicable Autoliv and customer standards and procedures. 

This position may require travel up to 10% (nationally and/or internationally) A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering or other engineering related field with a minimum of 3 - 5 years’ experience as an engineer within the Automotive Industry – specifically in a role related to restraint component and system level occupant safety CAE analysis using Ls-Dyna is required. A Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Injury Biomechanics or other related engineering field is preferred. 

  • Experience with DOE setup / analysis 
  • Previous airbag and seatbelt modeling experience of some sort is required 
  • Proficiency in Altair Hyperworks pre/post processing tools 
  • Experience with optimization software / methods such as Ls-Opt 
  • Working knowledge of energy management principals 
  • Results-oriented with the ability to support cross-functional local and global teams 
  • Detailed-oriented with the capability to dig into data and prioritize tasks and decisions in a timely manner 
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills as this position will require significant interaction with system, development, and application engineers as well as customers 
  • Willingness and ability to travel nationally and/or internationally as required
